- Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo alleges she has received threats to force her resignation
- Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu says she knows the proper legal channels to report such threats
- Torkornoo’s suspension follows a constitutional process for potential removal under Article 146(10)
Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has responded to recent statements made by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who alleged she has received threats pressuring her to resign from her position.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, June 25, Kwakye Ofosu noted that Justice Torkornoo, given her extensive legal background, is well aware of the formal procedures for reporting threats.
He emphasized that such matters should be addressed through the appropriate legal channels rather than in the media.
“If anyone in this country understands where to report a threat, it should be the Chief Justice herself,” he said. “There are established platforms for such grievances, and she knows exactly where to go for redress.”
Justice Torkornoo’s comments marked her first public appearance since her suspension on April 22, 2025. Her removal is currently under review following a prima facie case established by President John Dramani Mahama in consultation with the Council of State, pursuant to Article 146(10) of the Constitution.
