Julius Debrah has inaugurated an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to coordinate and supervise Ghana’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The ceremony was held at Jubilee House on Wednesday, November 26, where the Chief of Staff charged members to execute their mandate with discipline, integrity, and full commitment. He urged the team to go beyond football planning and tap into the wider economic, diplomatic, and cultural opportunities the tournament presents.

Ghana booked its place at the global showpiece with a narrow 1–0 win over Comoros in Accra on October 12, securing the fifth World Cup appearance for the Black Stars since 2006.

The Oversight Committee includes key representatives from the Office of the President, the Ministries of Sports, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Tourism, Youth Development, National Security, and the Ghana Football Association, as well as football legend Abedi Pele. One additional member is yet to be named.

To back the team’s preparations, the government has made a financial commitment of GH¢150 million towards Ghana’s World Cup campaign.

The funding was announced earlier this month by Cassiel Ato Forson during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement to Parliament. The allocation will cover the Black Stars’ preparations, logistics, and tournament participation.

The 2026 tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, making it the largest World Cup in history.
