A 22-year-old illegal miner, Nicholas Gyekyey, popularly known as “Town Boy,” has been remanded into police custody by the Enchi District Magistrate Court for allegedly murdering his 18-year-old wife, Erica Ocansey.

The court, presided over by Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer, did not take his plea and adjourned the case to March 2, 2026.

Prosecutor, Police Detective Chief Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare, told the court that the couple lived at Takyikrom near Achimfo in the Aowin Municipality. The deceased reportedly stayed with her mother-in-law and had a four-month-old baby with the accused.

According to the prosecution, at about 9:00 p.m. on February 13, 2026, Erica visited her father-in-law’s house, where Gyekyey lived with his brothers. An argument allegedly broke out after she demanded money from him. Gyekyey reportedly told her he did not have the full amount requested but could send her some money from his mobile money account.

The court heard that Erica, who knew his mobile money PIN, attempted to access the account using his phone, unaware that he had changed the code. This reportedly angered Gyekyey, who allegedly assaulted her and then struck her multiple times on the head with a stone.

A neighbour who witnessed the incident raised an alarm, prompting Gyekyey to flee. The victim was rushed to the Achimfo Clinic and later referred to the Enchi Government Hospital but died on the way.

Police arrested the suspect in the early hours of February 14, 2026, while he was heading towards Achimfo, and he has since been held in custody pending further proceedings.
