Somali security forces, alongside allied community fighters, have killed 11 Al Shabab militants in coordinated operations across Mudug and Bakool regions, while also preventing a planned suicide attack, the country’s Defence Ministry reported.
In the north-central Mudug region, Macaawisley community fighters launched a raid on Dumaaye village in Harardheere district, killing six Al Shabab fighters and recovering four AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and other equipment.
Meanwhile, Somali National Army troops successfully blocked an attempted suicide bombing near Dabaagalo, approximately 35 kilometres northwest of Harardheere, stopping the Al Qaeda-linked group from destabilizing local security.
Further west, government forces conducted operations along the Garasweyne–Moraagabey route, about 37 kilometres from Hudur in Bakool, killing five more militants and seizing additional weapons, including two AK-47 rifles.
The Defence Ministry confirmed that some of the deceased were senior Al Shabab members, including Ibraahim Caliyow, Mohamed Macalin, Aadan Mohamed Same, and Abdullahi Aadan Dheere.
Somali forces, supported by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia and other international partners, have intensified counterterrorism operations against Al Shabab since July. The group has been responsible for attacks on civilians, officials, and security forces for over 16 years.
