Soldiers from the anti-galamsey task force on Saturday, January 17, carried out a major operation against illegal mining activities at Kunsu in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region.
The operation targeted the Odoyefe illegal mining site near Kunsu, where the task force reportedly destroyed property believed to be used by galamsey operators.
During the raid, more than ten motorbikes were set ablaze, while various pieces of mining equipment used for the illegal activities were seized and destroyed.
One suspected illegal miner was arrested, while several others fled into the bush upon spotting the soldiers.
The operation sparked fear and panic among residents, with some expressing concern over the heavy military presence and the intensity of the crackdown on illegal mining activities.
