Accra, February 17, 2026 – MTN Ghana Foundation and CalBank have been lauded for their landmark partnership in the 2026 Save-a-Life blood donation drive, which collected 7,020 units of blood, surpassing the campaign’s ambitious 7,000-unit target.

Shirley Phyllis Owusu-Ofori, CEO of the National Blood Service, described the collaboration as a “game changer” for Ghana’s healthcare sector. She emphasised the critical role of voluntary blood donation, noting:

“Our vision is to create a system built entirely on voluntary donors, as they provide the safest and most reliable blood supply. MTN Ghana Foundation’s dedication over the years has consistently advanced this internationally recognised gold standard in blood donation.”

The nationwide exercise, held on Friday, February 13, 2026, mobilised 47 donation centres across all 16 regions, including major hubs at MTN House, CalBank Head Office, and MobileMoney LTD (Stanchart Building) in Accra.

Stephen Blewett, CEO of MTN Ghana, reflected on the importance of the initiative, stating:

“A reliable blood supply is essential for emergencies, disaster preparedness, and routine medical care. Even standard procedures can be risky without readily available blood.”

Acknowledging the initial target, Mr. Blewett challenged both MTN customers and the public to aim for 10,000 units in future drives, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to saving lives.

CalBank CEO Carl Asem highlighted the alignment of values between the two organisations, noting:

“This is not just corporate social responsibility; it is a commitment to strengthening Ghana’s public health infrastructure. We aim to make this initiative an even more impactful annual intervention.”

Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, praised the enthusiasm and dedication of staff volunteers and the public:

“We all understand the urgent need for blood in hospitals. Donating blood can save a life tomorrow—perhaps your own or that of someone close to you. Our partnership with CalBank demonstrates that meaningful change is achieved through unity and collaboration.”

The MTN Ghana Foundation pledged to continue building corporate partnerships to encourage voluntary blood donations, ensuring that Ghana’s national blood reserves remain strong and more lives can be saved through collective effort.
