- Sammy Gyamfi has sued Afia Schwarzenegger for defamation over a viral TikTok video
- He is seeking GHS10 million in damages, a public apology, and a perpetual injunction
- The video accused him of extramarital affairs and lavish spending on female students
Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board and a prominent political figure, has filed a defamation lawsuit against media personality Afia Schwarzenegger, also known as Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa.
The suit, filed at an Accra High Court on Wednesday, July 23, alleges that Afia Schwarzenegger made defamatory remarks about Mr. Gyamfi in a TikTok video.
Represented by Sustineri Attorneys PRUC, the plaintiff is seeking several remedies including a GHS 10 million compensation for damages, a perpetual injunction to prevent further defamatory comments, and a formal retraction and apology in national publications and online platforms.
Allegations in Focus
In the widely circulated video, Afia Schwarzenegger — speaking in Asante Twi — accused Mr. Gyamfi of engaging in extramarital affairs and lavishly spending on female students at the University of Ghana. She further alleged that his wife’s younger sister had purchased a house in the United States, hinting at questionable wealth sources.
“Tell Sammy Gyamfi’s wife that I am greeting her. Her husband is still buying cars for girls in Legon,” she claimed in the video.
Mr. Gyamfi asserts that the statements are false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation, especially considering his role as a lawyer and public servant.
Relief Sought by the Plaintiff
Mr. Gyamfi is requesting that the court:
-
Declare the statements defamatory
-
Award general and exemplary damages totaling GHS 10 million
-
Issue a perpetual injunction against further similar publications
-
Order a public apology and retraction to be published in The Daily Graphic and on TikTok
-
Grant legal costs including attorneys’ fees
The case underscores the growing tensions between public figures and media influencers over content shared on social platforms.
