Police in the Central Region, Ghana have arrested two men in Agona Swedru after intercepting 209 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics.

The suspects, 28-year-old Godfred Acquah and 34-year-old Awudu Usman, were apprehended at around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, along the Agona Asafo–Kwesitwukwaa road. Police recovered 154 slabs from a taxi cab (registration GR 2932-26) where the substances were concealed in four nylon sacks.

A subsequent search of Usman’s residence in Asisim, a suburb of Agona Swedru, uncovered an additional 55 slabs, bringing the total seized quantity to 209 slabs. Usman reportedly claimed ownership of the items found at his home.

The Central Regional Police Command revealed that the suspects attempted to bribe officers with GH₵100,000 in exchange for their release, but the offer was firmly rejected.

The two men are expected to be arraigned in court to face drug-related charges.
