The Ghana Police Service has interdicted an officer seen in a viral video assaulting a journalist during the parliamentary election rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
According to the reporter, the incident occurred while he was performing his professional duties.
He recounted that a police inspector abruptly ordered him to vacate the premises, even though several other journalists were present in the same area.
“I showed him my press ID to explain why I was there, but he still slapped me,” the journalist said in an interview.
A police statement released on July 11, 2025, confirmed that the officer has been removed from election duty and referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for further investigation and internal disciplinary action.
The Police Service assured the public of a thorough inquiry into the matter and pledged to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
