More than 4,000 delegates of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are gearing up for a crucial National Delegates Conference, where they will vote on extensive amendments to the party’s constitution.

The proposed changes, which affect over 50 provisions, aim to improve the party’s internal organization and boost operational effectiveness. Chairman of the Planning Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu (aka Joe Wise), confirmed that all delegates have already received the proposed amendments in advance.

“This conference is primarily focused on reviewing and voting on constitutional amendments,” Joe Wise said. He noted that a comprehensive 64-page summary report, shared by the party’s General Secretary, has been distributed to regional and constituency leaders. The key proposals will be distilled into specific motions, which delegates will deliberate on and vote upon.

The conference is seen as a pivotal step toward reform and renewal within the party, particularly in light of its defeat in the 2024 elections. Party officials emphasize that the amendments are based on widespread feedback and are intended to make the NPP more democratic, transparent, and responsive ahead of the 2028 general elections.
