The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to brief President John Dramani Mahama on the recently concluded mediation process aimed at achieving lasting peace in the long-standing Bawku conflict.
President Mahama had tasked the Asantehene with leading this high-level peace initiative, with hopes that it would finally resolve years of tension and unrest in the region.
Monday’s session, December 1, 2025, marked a major breakthrough as representatives of the Kusaasi and Mamprusi factions met together before the Asantehene for the first time since the mediation began.
Security at the Manhyia Palace was tight, with all delegates undergoing thorough checks before being ushered into the palace auditorium.
Sources say Otumfuo listened attentively to the concerns of both factions, urging restraint and reaffirming his commitment to working alongside the Presidency to bring an end to the protracted conflict.
Outside the Palace, supporters of both groups celebrated the historic meeting, though the jubilation briefly led to a misunderstanding that required quick intervention by police and military personnel. Additional security forces were deployed to restore order.
Both factions now await an official statement from Manhyia Palace detailing the next steps in the peace process.
