President John Dramani Mahama has expressed strong confidence in the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to help broker peace in the conflict-ridden Bawku area through his trusted mediation.
He praised Otumfuo’s pivotal role in ending the 16-year Dagbon chieftaincy dispute—a long-standing conflict that was resolved under his leadership and brought lasting stability to the region.
Mahama voiced optimism that similar success could be achieved in Bawku with Otumfuo’s guidance.
The remarks were made on Monday, June 2, during a courtesy visit by the Asantehene and a delegation of eminent chiefs to the President.
“Your leadership brought Dagbon out of years of painful division into a new chapter of reconciliation and progress,” Mahama said. “Now, in yet another critical moment for our country, Your Majesty’s commitment to resolving the Bawku conflict—despite its complexities—gives us renewed hope.”
He further noted that Otumfuo’s quiet diplomacy, cultural wisdom, and steadfast dedication are key to paving a path to peace in one of Ghana’s most fragile regions.
“We are confident that under your leadership, lasting peace will return to Bawku.”
