Oppong Nkrumah Blames Nalerigu Student Killings on Government’s Failure to Fund Security Agencies
MP says lack of security funding led to deadly incident at Nalerigu SHS, raises broader concerns over national intelligence failures.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, has blamed the recent killing of two students from Nalerigu Senior High School on the government’s failure to adequately fund national security operations.
Speaking during the debate on the 2025 mid-year budget review on Monday, July 28, Oppong Nkrumah argued that the tragic incident could have been prevented if security agencies had been properly resourced, particularly for intelligence gathering.
Although the exact details of the attack remain unclear, some local reports have suggested a possible connection to the ongoing Bawku tribal conflict.
However, this has not been officially confirmed by security authorities.
In the same debate, MP for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, also criticised the Akufo-Addo administration—citing its inability to prevent the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, despite having access to significant resources.
