OKESS Student, 16, Arrested for Possession of Locally Made Gun

A 16-year-old OKESS student was arrested after a locally made firearm was found during a dormitory search

A 16-year-old Form Two student from Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) has been arrested for unlawfully possessing a locally manufactured firearm.

The arrest was made by the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command after school authorities uncovered the weapon during a surprise dormitory inspection around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The student was immediately detained and handed over to police officials for questioning.

During the investigation, the teenager alleged that the firearm belonged to his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi. Acting on this information, the police apprehended Mr. Baafi the following day, Thursday, May 15.

Both the student and his stepfather have been released on police enquiry bail and are required to report back to authorities on Monday, May 19, 2025, for further investigation.

This information was disclosed in an official statement issued on Sunday, May 18, by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Officer.
