Former Member of Parliament for Subin, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi, has lauded the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he described as a successful and forward-looking National Delegates Conference, held on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.

Speaking on Ghana Se Sen on Lawson TV/Radio with Kwame Tanko, the seasoned NPP stalwart praised the party’s commitment to democratic reforms and internal inclusiveness.

According to him, the adoption of 54 out of 56 proposed motions marks a significant step toward a stronger, more unified party.

“The party has done well. It was a successful conference. The ultimate destination is One Member, One Vote — and we are getting there,” he remarked.

Hon. Boakye Antwi revealed that the motions adopted were part of over 300 proposed amendments reviewed by the party’s Amendments Committee, reflecting the depth of interest and engagement within the party.

He emphasized the need for a comprehensive and verifiable NPP membership database within the next two years, stating that a credible register is essential ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“By 2028, we must know who a true NPP member is. We need the numbers, and we must ensure inclusivity and transparency in our internal processes,” he stated.

Support for Ing. Kwabena Agyepong’s Proposal

Hon. Boakye Antwi endorsed a proposal by former General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, which seeks to grant voting rights to former polling station executives and electoral area coordinators within the NPP’s expanded electoral college.

“I was very happy with that proposal. These are party members who have served and deserve to be heard. It’s a great way to expand participation,” he said.

He added that such reforms are crucial to mobilizing grassroots strength and preparing the party for what he called a “critical election” in 2028.

Call for Discipline Among Aspirants and Supporters

Addressing the ongoing internal jostling for positions ahead of the 2028 elections, the former MP cautioned aspiring candidates and their supporters to campaign with respect and decorum.

“Potential aspirants must be decent in their public utterances. If a candidate hears that his supporter is insulting an opponent, he should call him to order. We need unity to win 2028,” he stressed.

When asked about whether he intends to contest for the position of NPP General Secretary, Hon. Boakye Antwi declined to confirm, saying:

“Let’s leave that one for now. What’s important is reviving the party and building a formidable force for the next election.”

A Party Poised for Reform

The just-ended National Delegates Conference is seen as a pivotal moment in the NPP’s journey toward internal restructuring and electoral readiness.

The adoption of the majority of motions, many of which aim to enhance transparency, broaden participation, and strengthen party structures, has drawn praise from across the party.

As the NPP gears up for 2028, voices like that of Eugene Boakye Antwi are calling for discipline, data-driven organization, and genuine inclusiveness to reclaim national leadership.
