NPP presidential hopeful, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, former Minister of Education and current Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, has kicked off his campaign tour, starting with radio engagements today, before beginning a regional tour in the Ashanti Region tomorrow.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tanko on Monday, November 24, 2025, Dr. Adutwum reflected on the party’s humiliating results in the 2024 elections, emphasizing the urgent need for strategies to rebuild confidence among Ghanaians.
He recalled that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, which former President Nana Akufo-Addo championed before assuming office, was a defining aspect of his campaign.
“If we want to capture power in 2028, the NPP must present catchy, impactful policies that will convince Ghanaians, including those who didn’t vote for us last time, to change their minds,” he said.
Central to Dr. Adutwum’s campaign is the eradication of poverty. He highlighted the staggering reality that 45% of Ghanaians live in poverty, arguing that while Ghana is not uniquely poor, the nation has not been serious in tackling the problem.
Drawing inspiration from China, he noted how the country overcame poverty under the leadership of President Deng Xiaoping, transforming its economy into a global competitor with the United States.
“Road accidents are killing our youth, yet the nation has not given sufficient attention to this crisis,” he said, underscoring the broader challenges affecting Ghanaian communities.
Dr. Adutwum stressed that his campaign will focus on comprehensive Poverty Alleviation, advocating for policies that improve living conditions across all sectors of society. He believes that by addressing the real challenges facing Ghanaians, the NPP can restore trust and regain political momentum.
The candidate also highlighted the importance of credibility and track record, noting that NPP delegates seek a candidate who has delivered results in the past and can inspire confidence for the future. “Everything someone does, people must have confidence in it,” he said, emphasizing the need for proven leadership to drive Ghana forward.
