In a major policy expansion, the Government of Ghana has extended the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme to include 60 selected private schools.

This marks the first time private institutions are officially benefiting from the initiative launched under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

The inclusion aims to ease overcrowding in public SHSs while ensuring wider access to quality secondary education across both public and private sectors.

The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has applauded the move, describing it as a progressive step toward equitable education opportunities for all Ghanaian students.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to cross-check the list of participating private schools through the official platforms of the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES), or GNACOPS.

The full list of eligible private schools has been released and is available for public review.
