The National Identification Authority (NIA) has stepped up efforts to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s national identity system by organising a one-day orientation and training programme for officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

The training, held on January 23, 2026, at the NIA Headquarters, forms part of preparations to deploy CID officers across all 16 regions to support investigations related to the Ghana Card registration process.

The programme aimed at deepening officers’ understanding of NIA operations while equipping them with the skills needed to investigate offences linked to Ghana Card registration.

Participants received detailed briefings on policies governing first-time issuance of the Ghana Card, records update procedures, and common infractions committed by applicants and staff. These sessions were supported by operational data and practical case experiences from the NIA CID Unit.

The training also covered investigative processes, system integrations, and technical operations, providing officers with hands-on insights into protecting data integrity within the national identity ecosystem.

Officers who took part described the programme as practical and highly informative, noting that it has better prepared them to support investigations and data protection efforts at the regional level.

In a related initiative, the NIA has also organised a four-day ISO certification training programme for its staff, conducted in four cohorts. The programme focused on Information Security Management Systems and IT Service Management, reinforcing the Authority’s commitment to international best practices, data security, and service delivery.

According to the NIA, these capacity-building initiatives underscore its broader commitment to institutional strengthening, operational excellence, and compliance with globally recognised standards, positioning the Authority as a world-class identity service provider.
