The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that tariffs paid to service providers under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will increase by an average of 120% starting in 2026.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, 1 December 2025, Akandoh said the adjustment responds to longstanding concerns from healthcare providers, who have argued that current tariffs are inadequate and unrealistic.

“Beginning next year, we’re going to increase NHIS tariffs for service providers. They have been complaining that the current rates are unrealistic, so the government has decided to increase them by an average of 120%. I believe this will be a game-changer,” he stated.

The Minister emphasised that the tariff review aims to strengthen healthcare delivery, boost provider confidence in the NHIS, and ensure better services for subscribers across the country.
