  • Police recovered two pump-action shotguns, one without a serial number.
  • Firearms suspected to be linked to planned robberies in Atwima and Greater Kumasi

In a significant stride against armed crime, the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two young men for unlawful possession of firearms.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted during the early hours of Tuesday, July 9, 2025.

The operation targeted criminal hideouts in the communities of Nweneso, Trabuom, and Nkwawie — areas that have long been under the radar of security agencies due to suspected armed activity.

The suspects have been identified as 21-year-old Acheampong Kwadwo and 24-year-old James Antwi Adjei. A meticulous search during the operation led to the recovery of two pump-action shotguns — one bearing the serial number ASAO 2164 2021, and another without any serial number, raising suspicions that they may have been stolen.

According to the police, preliminary investigations suggest the firearms were possibly being prepared for use in planned robbery operations targeting parts of the Atwima Districts and the Greater Kumasi area.

Both suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. The recovered firearms have been secured as exhibits to aid prosecution.

Police authorities have assured the public that further updates will be released as investigations progress, reaffirming their commitment to rid the region of armed crime.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command continues to urge residents to remain vigilant and share any information that may assist in combating criminal activities in the region.
