Henry Nana Boakye, NPP National Organizer, has described the reduction of the cocoa producer price under John Dramani Mahama as the “worst decision” affecting the livelihoods of nearly 1.5 million cocoa farmers.

Speaking on Monday, March 2, 2026, during an interview with Kwame Tanko on the Ghana Se Sen Show, Nana B said the move reflects Mahama’s lack of political incentive, claiming he knows he will not contest in future elections.

“The cocoa sector has been the backbone of Ghana’s economy. This decision undermines the farmers who have sustained the nation for decades,” Nana B said.

He contrasted the NDC’s current approach with the NPP administration under Akufo-Addo, noting that during the COVID-19 lockdowns, the government continued to pay workers’ salaries while managing the pandemic.

Nana B also criticised the NDC for taking credit for initiatives that were started under the NPP.

He noted that President Mahama and the NDC promised payments of GHC 6,000 to cocoa farmers, as well as the provision of boreholes and polythanks on farms, but have failed to fulfil their promises.

He argued that economic stability was established during the NPP era and warned that the party must remain united to reclaim power in 2028.

On the controversial 24-Hour Economy Policy, Nana B said:

“It won’t work. I am not a prophet of doom, but the 24-Hour Economy Policy is flawed. Take a look even at the Education Ministry’s teacher recruitment recently. After one year, Mahama cannot point to any concrete policies, unlike Nana Addo, who implemented Free SHS in his first term.”

He said that the policy, like other unfulfilled promises of the NDC, represents a monumental failure that threatens both the economy and the confidence of Ghanaians.
