Parliament’s Minority Caucus staged a dramatic walkout on Tuesday, just moments before the official swearing-in of Ewurabena Aubynn, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North.

The protest followed an attempt by Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh to deliver a statement prior to the ceremony. Although he formally sought permission to speak, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga objected, insisting the statement could be made after the swearing-in.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin agreed with the Majority’s position, prompting Annoh-Dompreh to declare, “Mr. Speaker, we cannot be part of this swearing-in,” before exiting the chamber with fellow Minority MPs.

Despite their absence, the ceremony proceeded, officially inducting Aubynn into Parliament following her recent rerun victory in the Ablekuma North constituency.
