Lawyer John Darko, Member of Parliament for Suame and a member of the Minority Caucus, has explained the rationale behind the Minority’s recent petitions to President John Dramani Mahama and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Maher Kheir.
Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio on Friday, July 25, 2025, Mr. Darko detailed that the petitions stemmed from concerns over political intimidation, violence, and electoral irregularities that occurred during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.
He disclosed that the Minority submitted their first petition to the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps on Thursday, July 24, followed by a similar submission to the Jubilee House addressed to President Mahama.
“Some individuals wore police uniforms but were not real officers. Some even beat journalists. These actions are unacceptable, and the perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent,” he emphasized.
Lawyer Darko noted that the Minority is also drawing urgent attention to the galamsey menace, which continues to destroy water bodies and farmlands across the country.
“We must reclaim our lands and restore our rivers. Without this, our ability to farm and provide food is at serious risk,” he said.
He appealed to President Mahama to take decisive action on the petition to safeguard Ghana’s democracy and environment.
“We plead with President Mahama to act on our petition and address the chaos and environmental destruction we are witnessing,” he concluded.
