A 22-year-old miner, Kingsford Kwame Boadu, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour by the District Magistrate Court One in Tarkwa for defrauding a businesswoman under false pretences.

Boadu was convicted after admitting to selling fake gold to the complainant, Harriet Clement, a trader based in Tarkwa.

Presenting the facts, Police Sergeant Douglas Addae told the court that in July 2025, Boadu and an accomplice identified only as Papa Yaw, who is currently at large, visited Ms Clement at her residence with what they claimed was gold for sale.

According to the prosecution, the accused quoted a price of GH¢3,700, which the complainant paid. She was then handed the supposed gold.

However, days later, when her husband, Kobby Danquah, attempted to resell the gold, a dealer examined it and declared it fake.

The prosecution said the couple launched a search for Boadu and eventually spotted him in Tarkwa on August 12, 2025. He was apprehended and handed over to the police.

During investigations, Boadu reportedly confessed to the offence and mentioned Papa Yaw as his accomplice but was unable to help authorities locate him.

The court subsequently convicted and sentenced him to six months in prison with hard labour.
