Mid-Year Budget: Patrick Boamah Hints at 30–40% Increase in Fees and Charges
Finance Minister to present 2025 Mid-Year Budget amid plans to raise fees and strengthen economic reforms.
- 30–40% increase in government fees likely in mid-year budget
- Proposal under review by Subsidiary Legislation Committee
- Budget aims to support recovery under IMF-backed programme
Chairman of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has signaled that Ghanaians should prepare for a significant increase—between 30% and 40%—in statutory fees and charges as part of the upcoming 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 23, the Okaikwei Central MP disclosed that the new Fees and Charges Regulations are expected to be laid before Parliament by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson on Thursday, July 24.
According to Boamah, the proposal, currently undergoing pre-laying scrutiny by the Subsidiary Legislation Committee, forms part of government measures to enhance domestic revenue generation.
The mid-year budget review is expected to outline Ghana’s fiscal performance for the first half of the year and revise strategies aimed at sustaining economic recovery under the ongoing IMF programme.
The anticipated adjustments to fees are part of a broader government agenda to boost revenue, streamline public expenditure, and maintain macroeconomic stability.
Key highlights of the budget are likely to include updates on tax collections, spending patterns, debt servicing, and potential revisions to existing levies.
