Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has praised the recent performance of the Ghanaian cedi, describing it as a symbol of economic resilience and using the popular phrase “Cedi no apicki” to poke fun at critics, particularly the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Delivering the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 24, Dr. Forson noted that the cedi has appreciated significantly since the start of the year — strengthening from GH¢15 to the dollar to about GH¢10.45 on the interbank market.

He attributed this recovery to improved macroeconomic fundamentals, growth in exports such as gold and cocoa, strong remittance inflows, and renewed investor confidence.

“The gains we’re seeing today are not by accident but a result of sound fiscal and monetary management,” he told Parliament.

Dr. Forson assured the House that the government remains committed to protecting the currency’s value and pursuing policies that ensure economic stability, reduced inflation, and long-term growth.
