Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has expressed disappointment in the performance of the current Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, while commending his predecessor, Martin Amidu, for his fairness, integrity, and effectiveness.

In an interview on Tuesday, November 11, Blay praised Amidu’s impartial approach to fighting corruption, describing his resignation as a significant loss for the country.

“When Martin Amidu was appointed, it raised some eyebrows, even within our own NPP circles and the Cabinet. But one thing was clear — he has integrity, is fair-minded, and not vindictive,” Blay said.

He highlighted Amidu’s dedication to the rule of law, noting that the former Special Prosecutor pursued cases he believed in while letting the law guide his actions. “He was neutral, even though his background as a political activist might have suggested otherwise,” Blay added.

Blay also lauded Amidu’s independence and courage, saying it made him effective in office. “He tackled critical cases, even challenging the president at times. He was doing his job exceptionally well, and it was unfortunate when he resigned. He could have contributed greatly to the country in that role,” he noted.

Turning to the current Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, Blay expressed dissatisfaction with his performance, despite the substantial financial resources provided to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

“I am not satisfied with the results so far. Much money has been allocated to the office, yet we have mostly seen press conferences and chasing schedules. There’s a lot of smoke and no fire,” Blay said.

Despite his criticism, he reaffirmed the importance of the OSP and urged the current administration to ensure the office delivers tangible anti-corruption outcomes.
