  • Main legal dispute now centers on determining the rightful surviving spouse; hearing set for November 17

The Manhyia Palace has postponed the hearing of a case involving Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa, sister of musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, after she invoked the Great Oath of the Asantehene during a court session on October 28, 2025.

The case, filed by Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, concerns who holds the status of lawfully wedded wife of the late musician. Under Asante tradition, disputes involving the Great Oath must be resolved at the palace, not in court.

The family was summoned to the palace for resolution on November 3, 2025, but the hearing was postponed due to a pending court case.

Meanwhile, the Kumasi High Court dismissed an injunction by Akosua Serwaa seeking to halt Daddy Lumba’s funeral rites, affirming that authority over the musician’s remains lies with his extended family according to Asante customs.

The court has directed all parties to submit necessary legal documents by October 31 for a Case Management Conference on November 14. The main hearing is scheduled for November 17, with an expected conclusion by November 21 and a final ruling on the broader dispute by November 25.
