Story Highlights
  • Harry Maguire receives 15-month suspended sentence in Mykonos brawl retrial.
  • Charges include non-serious assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery.
  • Maguire will appeal the latest verdict, keeping his conviction temporarily nullified.

Harry Maguire has been handed a 15-month suspended sentence by a Greek court following a retrial over an incident on the island of Mykonos in August 2020.

The defender was found guilty of non-serious assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery, according to Sky Sports.

Maguire, who was involved in a brawl alongside family members during his holiday, spent two nights in a police cell following his arrest but has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

In the initial 2020 ruling, he was convicted of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery and received a 21-month suspended sentence. He successfully appealed, leading to a retrial.

Although the new suspended sentence is reduced in length and severity, Maguire remains determined to clear his name and will appeal the verdict. He has refused previous opportunities to settle the case.

The 32-year-old was not present during the latest proceedings and is expected to feature for Manchester United in tonight’s match against Newcastle United.

Under Greek law, because Maguire is appealing the fresh verdict, his conviction is temporarily nullified. His legal team is expected to take the case to Greece’s Supreme Court.
