The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a man in connection with a robbery that resulted in the death of a miner at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down, a suburb of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, Rahman Adams, popularly known as Wale, was picked up on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Pomposo after an intelligence-led police operation.

The arrest follows investigations into a residential robbery that occurred on December 12, 2025. Armed assailants reportedly broke into a house at Asonkore, where responding officers later found the body of a 42-year-old miner.

Preliminary police findings suggest the attackers entered the house by cutting through a burglar-proof window. During the incident, the suspects allegedly made away with GH¢2,600 in cash, a laptop, and a vehicle ignition key, and violently assaulted the victim, leading to his death.

Police say one other suspect, identified only as A.T., a Nigerian national believed to have played a central role in the crime, remains at large. Weapons including hammers, machetes, and cutters were retrieved from the crime scene.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved for autopsy as investigations continue.
