At the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held on Tuesday, July 1, President John Dramani Mahama delivered a heartfelt appeal for unity, urging Ghanaians to overcome the divisions of tribe, religion, and politics that threaten the nation’s progress.

In his stirring address, President Mahama emphasized the critical need for togetherness and mutual respect, calling on citizens to stand against forces that divide the nation.

“We must resist the voices of tribalism, religious extremism, and political discord,” he urged. “These are dangerous seeds that must never take root in our beloved Ghana.”

He encouraged Ghanaians to be agents of healing in both speech and deed. “Let our words and actions be rooted in peace, compassion, and respect. We must build bridges of unity, not barriers of division, for we are one people, bound by a shared land, identity, and future,” he said.

Reflecting on the nature of leadership, President Mahama reminded public servants of their duty to serve with integrity and humility.

“Holding public office is not about personal privilege—it is a sacred trust. We must be accountable to the people, especially the most vulnerable among us,” he stated.

Reaffirming his commitment to justice, Mahama declared that no one is above the law, including the presidency itself. “Even the office I occupy, by God’s grace, is subject to the rule of law,” he affirmed.

The event brought together religious leaders, politicians, and citizens from across Ghana in a collective moment of reflection, prayer, and a shared hope for national healing and renewal.
