President John Dramani Mahama is set to deliver the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament today, Friday, February 27.

The address is expected to present a comprehensive assessment of Ghana’s current state, outlining achievements across key sectors and detailing the government’s policy priorities for the year ahead.

Major focus areas are likely to include the economy, health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, as well as updates on Ghana’s international engagements and commitments.

The presentation is in fulfilment of Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the President to address Parliament at the beginning of each session on the state of the nation.

Ahead of the address, the Minority in Parliament has called on the President to provide practical solutions to pressing concerns facing Ghanaian youth, particularly unemployment and broader economic challenges.

Meanwhile, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has directed Members of Parliament to be seated by 8:30 a.m., warning that late entry into the chamber will not be permitted.

The 2026 SONA is expected to set the tone for legislative and policy direction for the year, offering insight into the government’s development agenda.
