President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the Vegetable Development Project under the Feed Ghana Initiative at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, calling it a key move to strengthen national food security and expand irrigation systems.

Speaking at the event on Thursday, November 27, President Mahama, alongside traditional authorities and project partners, announced that the initiative includes the construction of a modern packhouse to facilitate grading, sorting, packaging, and cold chain management for vegetables produced under the project.

He revealed that the project is slated for completion within 12 months and emphasized plans to replicate the model across the country, particularly in the northern regions where farmers face water shortages during the dry season.

“The entire project has been carefully designed to be completed within 12 months. This Vegetable Development Project will be replicated in other parts of the country, especially in the north, where water availability remains a major challenge,” Mahama said.

Linking the initiative to employment, the President highlighted that a strengthened vegetable sector could create new jobs and contribute to a 24-hour agricultural economy, supporting sustainable development and helping absorb the growing labour force.
