John Dramani Mahama has declared that Ghana must position itself as West Africa’s leading production hub by accelerating industrialisation and strengthening private sector participation.
Speaking at the Presidential Dialogue with the Private Sector in Accra on Monday, February 23, President Mahama stressed the urgency of turning Ghana into a manufacturing powerhouse capable of supplying both domestic and regional markets.
“We must work to make Ghana West Africa’s production hub,” he emphasized.
The President described the private sector as the engine of sustainable economic growth, job creation and innovation, noting that businesses will play a central role in achieving the country’s industrial ambitions.
He urged companies to increase investment in domestic production, create employment opportunities and prioritise local content. He also highlighted the importance of skills development, adherence to international production standards and continuous policy dialogue between government and industry players.
As part of efforts to expand Ghana’s industrial base, President Mahama announced the commissioning of the Phase Two expansion of B5 Plus Limited, a major steel manufacturing facility at Ningo Prampram. The expansion is expected to generate nearly 5,000 direct and indirect jobs while boosting local production of structural steel, grinding media balls and pre-engineered building systems.
The President further pointed to the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy policy, which is designed to increase productivity, support manufacturers and create jobs by encouraging businesses to extend operational hours through targeted incentives.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment that enables industries to grow and positions Ghana as a competitive production and export hub within West Africa.
