President John Dramani Mahama has clarified that substantive appointments for the Ministries of Defence and Environment, Science and Technology will not be made immediately but are scheduled for 2026.

Speaking during a meeting with Muslim leaders at Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 25, the President dismissed public speculation regarding the replacements for the late Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Muhammed.

“They say Allah gives and Allah takes. He took two of our comrades and we haven’t filled those positions yet,” Mahama said, urging the public to avoid rumours about imminent appointments.

The President assured that the government intends to make the necessary appointments early next year, after the Christmas holidays.

“We will do those appointments next year. After the holiday, the Christmas and the holiday, we will fill those positions,” he added.

Mahama further encouraged citizens to disregard claims suggesting that new ministers would be named soon.

The late ministers were among eight individuals who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, while on a national assignment in the Ashanti Region.
