In a fresh twist to the high-profile widowhood dispute involving the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, Lawyer William Kusi, representing Akosua Serwaa, has emphatically declared that Odo Buroni can never be considered a wife of the late musician, regardless of the recent court ruling.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on the Se Sen Show on Lawson TV, hosted by Kwame Tanko, Lawyer Kusi said he and his team have filed an appeal immediately after the ruling, asserting that the judge erred in her decision.
“Odo Buroni can never be a wife,” Lawyer Kusi stressed.
“The judge was wrong in her ruling; we made an appeal immediately after the judgment. The appeal will not travel beyond the Court of Appeal.”
Lawyer Kusi recounted that he first became involved in the case after receiving a call from Akosua Serwaa. She sought legal advice, and after consultations, he officially took up her case.
“I have handled this case diligently and professionally. I am not a failure,” he said.
Addressing claims regarding the validity of the marriage certificate he presented in court, Lawyer Kusi dismissed accusations that it was fake. He described as “a joke” the judge’s insistence that the original ordinance marriage certificate be produced.
“The marriage certificate we tendered was genuine. The judge was wrong,” he affirmed.
The lawyer revealed that Akosua Serwaa was overwhelmed with emotion after the ruling last Friday.
“She cried uncontrollably after the ruling, and we were afraid she might harm herself. We had to send people to her house immediately,” he recounted.
Lawyer Kusi clarified that Odo Buroni is not entitled to Daddy Lumba’s property, emphasizing that only the six children of Lumba and Akosua Serwaa have legal claims. He warned that if the case is overturned, Odo Buroni would be required to return any “agyapadeɛ” she received, while the children would retain their inheritance.
“Akosua Serwaa never knew Lumba had children with Odo Buroni, and their relationship did not last long,” Kusi noted.
The funeral for the late highlife legend has also been rescheduled. Lawyer Kusi announced that it will not take place on December 13, 2025, as previously planned, but instead on March 14, 2026.
Responding to criticism for granting interviews after every court session, Kusi explained that misreporting on the first day compelled him to clarify facts regularly.
“People blamed me for granting interviews after every court session, but there was misreporting after the first day. That is why I continued granting interviews after each sitting,” he said.
Lawyer Kusi remains confident that the appeal will clarify legal rights and property entitlements in the dispute. He emphasized that while the ruling is respected, it does not reflect the full truth of the law, and the legal battle is far from over.
