Media personality Kwame Tanko, host of the Ghana Se Sen show on Lawson TV/Radio, has publicly declared his support for Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi in the upcoming National Chairmanship race of the New Patriotic Party.
Speaking on his programme on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Tanko threw his weight behind the current Ashanti Regional Chairman, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the party into the future.
According to him, the NPP will soon head to the polls to elect national executives after completing its presidential primaries, and it is in the party’s best interest to choose a Chairman who understands the grassroots and can reconnect the base ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Kwame Tanko noted that although all aspirants for the national chairmanship are capable and competent, but Wontumi stands out among them.
He described the Ashanti Regional Chairman as highly accessible, grassroots-oriented, and widely connected both within and outside the party.
He argued that following the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections, the NPP needs more than just a chairman but a dynamic and energetic leader with strong grassroots appeal and financial strength to help rebuild and reposition the party.
Kwame Tanko further praised Wontumi’s long-standing service to the party, asserting that he has remained untainted by corruption and continues to demonstrate commitment to the NPP’s growth.
He stressed that the party should avoid electing arrogant or overly academic leaders detached from the base, and instead choose someone with humility, energy, and the ability to mobilise support nationwide.
The broadcaster maintained that Wontumi embodies youthful exuberance, accessibility, and the financial capacity required to support party activities, insisting that missing the opportunity to elect him would signal that the NPP is not ready to return to power in 2028.
Describing him as “the deal” for the NPP, Kwame Tanko urged delegates to move away from elitist leadership styles and elect a chairman ready to work on the ground and reconnect the party to its grassroots support.
