A somber mood has engulfed the community of Kwahu Praso in the Eastern Region following the sudden death of a 14-year-old BECE candidate from Kwahu Praso Preparatory School.
The young student passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, just days after complaining of a mild headache.
Her untimely death has left family members, classmates, and the school community in deep shock.
Her father, Godwin Osei, recounted the heartbreaking sequence of events:
“She said she had a headache and took some medicine before going to write her first paper. After returning, she was unusually weak and rested at a neighbor’s home. I was called to take her to the Kwahu Praso Clinic, but later that night, her condition worsened. She kept vomiting, so I rushed her to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw. Despite the nurses’ efforts, we lost her. She had no known underlying health issues,” he said with sorrow.
Friends and classmates mourned the loss of a girl they described as kind and cheerful.
“I was shocked. We were just together after the first paper. We knew she wasn’t feeling well, but none of us expected this. We’ll deeply miss her,” a classmate shared.
In a show of support, the Kwahu South Municipal Director of Education, Williams Frimpong, along with the MCE, Effah Osei Bonsu David, visited the examination center to offer words of comfort to grieving students.
“We’ve spoken with her peers and encouraged them to continue the exams. The teachers have been very supportive. We’ve also reached out to the family to extend our condolences,” Mr. Frimpong said.
The incident has cast a shadow over what is normally a hopeful time for students sitting for their exams, highlighting the fragility of life and the importance of health even during critical academic periods.
