The Government of Ghana has officially renamed Kotoka International Airport to its original name, Accra International Airport, restoring the designation it held before being changed decades ago.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, officials explained that the facility was initially known as Accra International Airport and that reverting to the original and internationally recognised name is both appropriate and timely.

The Ministry assured travellers, airlines and stakeholders that the name change will not affect airport operations, safety standards or international flight arrangements. It also noted that the airport’s international aviation code, ACC, assigned by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), has remained unchanged.

As part of the transition, authorities will update statutory instruments, official records, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation publications and other communication materials to reflect the restored name.

Government has appealed to the public, aviation stakeholders and international partners to cooperate with the relevant institutions to ensure a smooth and orderly transition. The Ministry also expressed appreciation for the continued support of all stakeholders throughout the process.
