The Ghana Police Service has arrested Mujahid Suraj, also known as Mims, in connection with the shooting at the Odupongkpehe Polling Centre in Kasoa during the 2024 general elections.

Suraj had gone into hiding after discharging a pump-action gun, injuring a voter. Eyewitnesses reported that his intended target was Tamimu Tanko, a constituency executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), but the shot missed, striking a man who was casting his vote instead.

While some have suggested the shooting was politically motivated, others believe it stemmed from a personal feud between Suraj and Tanko.

The suspect was arrested on the night of Saturday, January 17, by the Kasoa Divisional Command after police gathered intelligence that he had returned to his residence in Odupongkpehe Zongo.

Police sources confirmed that Suraj is under investigation and will face prosecution in connection with the incident.
