Ghana international and Leicester City forward Jordan Ayew has called on his teammates to be more assertive in front of goal following the Foxes’ 1-0 pre-season win over Hungarian side Zalaegerszegi.

Ayew, who scored the only goal of the match, spoke to the club’s media after the game, encouraging greater attacking urgency from the team as they prepare for the new season.

“Sometimes as a striker, you have to force your way through—and that’s what I did,” said the Black Stars deputy captain. “I feel like we don’t always take enough initiative. We often move the ball around the box, but we need to shoot more. Luckily for me, it went in today.”

Ayew’s goal came after a dazzling solo run through several defenders, underlining his experience and composure in the final third.

The match also marked a significant moment for fellow Ghanaian Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who made his return to the pitch after recovering from an ACL injury that sidelined him since November 2024.

“I’m always confident and positive, both as a player and as a person,” Ayew added, reflecting his veteran mindset as Leicester continues its pre-season preparations.
