Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), a leading contender for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged party members to embrace unity, stressing that post-election reconciliation is crucial for securing victory in the 2028 general elections.

Addressing the media and party faithful, Mr. Appiah highlighted the principle of “One NPP”, emphasizing that the internal race to elect a flagbearer must not become a source of division.

As a candidate for regional leadership, Mr. Appiah says his foremost goal is to serve as a bridge for all factions within the party. While asserting his personal right to vote, he appealed to supporters of all aspirants to exercise caution in their campaign language.

“Maintaining unity is not just ideal—it’s strategic,” Mr. Appiah said. “I want to become the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP. After the elections, we are the same people responsible for reconciliation in the region. It would be wrong for me to campaign openly for or against any aspirant.”

He further called on delegates and party supporters to conduct campaigns with decorum, warning that harsh internal rivalries could undermine the NPP’s performance in the 2028 national elections.

The NPP is set to hold elections on January 31, 2026, to select a successor to the current party leadership. The contest features five high-profile candidates, all of whom Mr. Appiah praised for their capability to govern Ghana: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, Kwabena Adjei Agyapong, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong.

“Whoever the party elects as its flagbearer, I am fully committed to working with them,” Mr. Appiah added, reinforcing his message of unity above all.
