The newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphasized that his motivation for seeking office is rooted in service to the people, rather than personal enrichment.

Speaking to journalists after casting his vote at the Alhaji Iddrisu House 2 polling station on Tuesday, March 3, Baba Jamal said his political journey is guided by a commitment to improving the lives of constituents.

“I am not motivated by materialistic things. I am motivated by human service. That is why I am here to serve my people,” he stated.

Drawing on his experience as a former MP for Akwatia, Baba Jamal expressed confidence in his ability to replicate—and even surpass—his previous achievements in his new constituency.

“I’ve done it before in Akwatia, and I know I will do it better in East Ayawaso,” he said, describing the voting process as fair and orderly.

He urged residents to unite behind what he described as a renewed vision for the constituency, while acknowledging that the ultimate outcome rests in God’s hands.

“As I said, God makes kings. We have prayed for a high percentage, but it is in the hands of Allah, and Allah will determine it,” he added.

When the polls closed on March 3, Baba Jamal secured a convincing victory, polling 10,884 votes to claim the parliamentary seat.

His closest rival, Baba Ali Yusif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), obtained 4,009 votes. Independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda garnered 1,885 votes, David Kanor received 104 votes, and Ibrahim Iddrisu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) secured 43 votes.
