Bright Aweh, the main suspect in the murder of Immigration officer Stephen King Amoah, has denied any involvement in the killing, insisting on his innocence during Monday’s court proceedings.

“I did not kill my friend. I am not a murderer. I will get through this, and justice will be served,” Aweh declared as he was escorted back into police custody.

Relatives of the late officer told the GNA they have sufficient evidence linking Aweh to the crime and vowed to pursue justice through lawful channels.

Aweh, also known as Highest Bright, is standing trial alongside Thomas Zigah for their alleged roles in Amoah’s murder at Ashongman, Accra.

At the Adabraka District Court, presided over by Nana Abena Asoh Owusu-Omenyo, the prosecution informed the court that police were still awaiting guidance from the Attorney-General’s Office. Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana explained that a duplicate docket had been forwarded to the Attorney-General on November 12, 2025, and assured the court that follow-up measures were ongoing, requesting an adjournment.

The court adjourned the case to February 3, 2026. Both Aweh and Zigah face charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder. Pleas have not yet been taken, and both remain in lawful custody.

Amoah went missing on July 3, 2025, after leaving home to meet Aweh at Ashongman Estate. His body was later discovered in a drain near Abom Junction. Investigations suggest the meeting stemmed from a financial dispute, following WhatsApp exchanges that included images of cash.

Aweh allegedly claimed he had given Amoah GHC500,000 to settle a debt and return the balance, but inconsistencies in his account led to his arrest. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered a camouflage outfit with bloodstains and a fufu pestle wrapped in polythene, prompting a re-arrest.

Initially charged with kidnapping, the charge against Aweh was dropped, and he was held for murder. Further investigations led to Zigah’s arrest, while police continue searching for a third suspect.
