A young mobile money operator has been shot dead at the entrance of his home in Garu in the Upper East Region, in what residents describe as a targeted and brazen attack.

The victim, identified only as K2, was killed on February 24, 2026, at Bugnatenga, a suburb of Garu.

Reports indicate that he had closed from work and was returning home when unknown gunmen ambushed him. The attackers allegedly fired at close range, killing him instantly before fleeing the scene.

The incident has heightened fear within the community, particularly among small business operators who worry they could be vulnerable to similar attacks. Residents say the fact that the shooting occurred at the victim’s doorstep has left many shaken.

The killing adds to a series of recent gun-related incidents in the area, including an attack at the Garu District Health Insurance Office and other shootings that have resulted in multiple fatalities.

Community members are calling for urgent security intervention, urging authorities to act swiftly to restore calm and prevent further loss of life.
