- The government will recruit 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff in 2025
- Funding for this recruitment is included in the 2025 national budget
- The government is committed to resolving posting issues and ensuring effective deployment
The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed plans for the government to recruit 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching personnel in 2025, aiming to bolster the nation’s education system.
Speaking in Parliament on June 25, the Minister confirmed that the 2025 national budget includes sufficient funds to facilitate this large-scale recruitment effort.
His statement also responded to concerns from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who called for an inquiry into claims of mistreatment of teachers protesting at the Ghana Education Service (GES) office.
Haruna Iddrisu dismissed the allegations and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to addressing unresolved posting issues and ensuring new hires are efficiently deployed to enhance learning outcomes nationwide.
“I met with Bafour Eric earlier today and will soon update the public. He informed me that clearance was granted in May, with work initially set to start in August but beginning in September instead. The Finance Ministry clearance expired on December 31 and must be renewed, which I am currently awaiting,” the Minister explained.
He concluded by reiterating the commitment: “As I have assured this House, the recruitment of 50,000 teachers and 10,000 support staff is fully backed by the 2025 budget.”
