The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has urged its officers stationed in the Bawku enclave to exercise heightened caution and prioritise their safety following recent assaults on security personnel in the region.

The area has recently experienced sporadic violence, putting officers in the conflict-prone zone at significant risk.

Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration, Lord Ofori Afrifa, speaking on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, highlighted the ongoing dangers faced by officers as they perform their duties along Ghana’s borders.

Addressing personnel after a deadly attack on immigration officers in Tempane, Mr. Ofori Afrifa stressed the importance of vigilance and personal protection.

“As we have been talking to them, we have been warning them as well to take security seriously, especially around our borders. We should be aware of the operational areas we find ourselves, the risks and the dangers that we face in discharging the duties of our work,” he said.

He further noted that the GIS is collaborating closely with other security agencies to strengthen coordination and safeguard officers deployed in high-risk zones.
