The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has interdicted six officers for gross misconduct after a viral social media video showed them verbally assaulting a superior officer.

The incident occurred on November 25, 2025, at the Offinso Inland Checkpoint, where the officers were on duty. The superior officer, who identified himself as a Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DC01), was travelling as a passenger in a commercial vehicle when the confrontation took place.

According to a GIS statement, the officers’ behaviour—marked by verbal aggression, lack of civility, and blatant disrespect for authority—falls far below the standards expected of the Service. GIS stressed that such conduct is unacceptable, especially as the institution continues to prioritise professionalism and courteous engagement with travellers.

The Service noted that the officers’ actions constitute a clear violation of the GIS Code of Conduct.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration reaffirmed that professionalism, respect for authority, and integrity remain fundamental values of the Service. He emphasised that any behaviour that undermines these principles will face prompt and decisive disciplinary action.

GIS also issued an apology to the public for any embarrassment caused by the incident and assured citizens of its unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards of discipline, accountability, and professionalism.

The Service announced that additional updates will be provided once ongoing investigations are concluded.
