GHS52 Million Ready for Final Phase of Appiate Redevelopment – Lands Minister Assures
Minister says final phase of Appiate reconstruction to begin soon, with GHS52 million secured and awaiting resolution of land issues.

- GHS52 million allocated for Appiate Phase III redevelopment
- Phases I and II completed with GHS60 million already spent
- Work to resume after resolution of outstanding land issues
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to completing the full reconstruction of Appiate, the Western Region town devastated by a deadly mining explosives disaster in 2022.
Speaking during a working visit to the community, the Minister announced that GHS52 million remains available to kick-start Phase III of the redevelopment project. He noted that this final phase will begin once pending land-related issues with local chiefs are resolved.
“President Mahama instructed me to ensure that all outstanding work in Appiate is completed. Of the GHS112 million raised through the Appiate Support Fund, GHS60 million has already gone into Phases I and II,” he stated.
The Appiate Support Fund was launched in the aftermath of the catastrophic explosion that killed dozens, injured many more, and leveled the community when a truck carrying mining explosives was involved in a fatal crash.
The fund, bolstered by donations from individuals, institutions, and corporate partners, has been the financial backbone of the ongoing reconstruction project aimed at rebuilding homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods in the town.
Minister Armah-Kofi Buah assured residents that government remains committed to ensuring the town is fully restored.
