Ghana Welcomes German President Steinmeier for Landmark State Visit

Visit aims to deepen cooperation in trade, technology, and education as President Steinmeier meets Mahama and visits Ashanti Region.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Accra on Sunday evening for a three-day state visit aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Germany.

He was welcomed at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the German Ambassador, Frederik Landshöft.

President Steinmeier, leading a high-level delegation, is expected to meet President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on Monday, November 3, 2025. The visit will begin with an inspection of a full military Guard of Honour at the Forecourt of the Presidency, followed by a closed-door meeting and bilateral discussions between both delegations.

Talks will center on trade, investment, technology transfer, and development cooperation, with both leaders expected to reaffirm commitments to mutual growth and partnership.

A State Luncheon will later be hosted in President Steinmeier’s honour at the Presidential Banquet Hall.

On Tuesday, the German President will continue his visit to Kumasi, where he will break ground for a new project at the Kumasi Technical Institute, visit KNUST and the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research, and pay a courtesy call on Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace.

President Steinmeier is scheduled to depart Ghana on Tuesday evening after concluding his engagements.
